Let us be honest. When someone significant says, “let’s get this trending,” usually Twitter responds and indeed, brings in the goods.
However, most of the time Twitter doesn’t respond in the serious way that many hashtags are intended for. Who remembers #susanalbumparty? So when UKIP innocently asked Twitter for reasons why they were voting UKIP, following horrible hashtag fails in the past and the ridicule the social media network gave them last week over their carnival attempts, you’d think that they’d expect the backlash that followed.

Of course, the entirety of the UK on Twitter came together to explain exactly why they were voting for UKIP – or not. Nigel Farage and his party were exposed to further mockery, as per usual.
