The perception of pop star Robin Thicke has been seen to cross, to borrow a song, Blurred Lines. The song of the same name has been the subject of bans across several university campuses in the UK, as well as raised questions on the perception of women through the lyrics.
Additionally, Thicke has recently made headlines with regard to his relationship with his former wife, the actress Paula Patton.
So, on 1 July, Thicke held a Twitter chat with the American broadcaster VH1.
.@robinthicke is here ready to answer your questions! #AskThicke pic.twitter.com/S6YMNtUnq3

While he was there to promote his new album, Paula (said to be named for Patton), the subject of the questions were off limits, and when it comes to Twitter, nothing is off limits. As a result, a number of messages came in, either sarcastic or critical of his treatment of women, causing a derailment of the chat’s original purpose.
#AskThicke what career do you think you’d have chosen if you hadn’t got rich being a rape apologist?

However, some tweets did discuss his music and his relationship.

But still, the subject of the tweets were mainly responding to his controversial persona, with many saying this left the purpose of the chat unaccomplished.
#AskThicke Are you going to play your new album on a boom box over your head outside Paula’s house? That usually works.

Robin Thicke is getting terrible abuse on the #AskThicke hashtag. Maybe If he’d dressed less provocative & stayed sober it wouldn’t happen?
