Review: The Thinking Drinkers’ Guide to the Legends of Liquor

It goes a bit like this: beer, shot, shot, shot, shot. Well, only if you concentrate on the alcohol.

It goes a bit like this: beer, shot, shot, shot, shot. Well, only if you concentrate on the alcohol.

To Ben McFarland and Tom Sandham, the world is broken. People are spending too much time consuming alcohol, and too little time appreciating it: their ideology is drink less, but drink better.

They ought to know, too: the pair are drinks journalists who have launched their own beer. (They’ve even written for Wetherspoon News).

“NOW, who wants a fucking beer?”

It’s a very witty potted history of some of history’s greatest and their relationship with alcohol. That on its own is not bad, but McFarland and Sandham practice what they preach.

Cue bar staff bringing in crates of beer, and trays of gin, bourbon, tequila, and vodka to try whilst the pair talk them through the liquor before them. This stuff is the best (in more ways than one).

Expect drink (obviously), audience participation, and some moments that make you utter ‘what the f***?’

Kettle rating: 4/5
