European Grand Prix: Nico Rosberg strolls to victory in Baku

Nico Rosberg became the first F1 driver to win at the Baku City circuit, securing another dominant victory for Mercedes and leading the championship title by 24 points.

At the start of the race, Rosberg cut ahead of Ricciardo to hold the lead into Turn One – with most cars through the first corner and set the pace throughout the race leading every lap and setting a new fastest lap of 1:46.485.

Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton was faced with some bad luck after his engine appeared to be is “de-rating” on the straights, which meant he wasn’t able to fully access its hybrid power which cost him lap time and eventually ended up in fifth position.

Perez took in third position for Force India as he overtook Kimi Raikkonen and took advantage during the last lap as Raikkonen dealt with an engine problem and was penalised with a five-second penalty for crossing the pit lane during lap 14. However, Raikkonen’s teammate Sebastian Vettel came in a strong second for Ferrari, securing his first consecutive podium of the season.

Daniil Kvyat was faced with disappointment after facing a suspension problem, the Toro Rosso driver was pushed back into the garage and has retired from the race during lap 8. Red Bull picked managed to secure some extra points during the last two laps as Max Verstappen managed to overtake Nico Hulkenberg for eighth and Daniel Ricciardo got ahead of his teammate in seventh position.
