A little village you have probably never heard of

Sunset at Machrihanish

If you’re looking for a quiet holiday beside the beach this summer, then look no further. And if you are planning a staycation this year, then even better! Let me tell you about a little place in Scotland that you have probably never heard of.

The beautiful village I am talking about is called Machrihanish (and yes if you can pronounce that first time, then five points to you!). It is situated on the west coast in Argyll and is a short distance away from the Mull of Kintyre.

I have had the pleasure of holidaying here every year of my life, as I have some very lucky Grandparents who call Machrihanish home. This picturesque village is the perfect holiday for any age and family. Couples can book a romantic getaway and stay at The Ugadale Hotel, which offers luxury accommodation and fresh local meals. If this isn’t for you, then why not stay in one of the award winning Ugadale Cottages? The cottages are perfectly placed across the road from Machrihanish beach and right next door to the wonderful old-world styled pub, The Old Clubhouse.

Any golf enthusiasts out there then stop right here! Machrihanish is the perfect place to go for a golfing weekend, whether that is with the family, the boys or even on a stag do. The Machrihanish Golf Club is a hop, skip and a jump from the accommodation and is open to visitors all year round. Also, the golf club has competitions on all throughout the summer, so why not show the locals how it’s done?

The beaches at Machrihanish are perfect for those of you wanting a relaxing break. If the weather is right, then the beaches can offer a scenic walk, somewhere lovely to sunbathe or the ideal location to go surfing!

What’s even better is that your furry friends are allowed on the beaches all year round, making for a fun-filled family holiday!

From the sand you may even be lucky enough to see some of the amazing wildlife that this village is home to. If you look closely, then you will see the array of birds, otters and even dolphins.

If that isn’t enough for you, then head to the Machrihanish Seabird and Wildlife Observatory for an amazing wildlife experience with brilliant bird watching and spectacular scenery.

A short drive away is the beautiful town of Campbeltown. Everything you could possibly need is here, with a variety of shops, a supermarket, leisure centre, museum and an array of restaurants and bars.

So if you’re looking for a relaxing break this year, then Machrihanish could be the perfect getaway. Whilst I can’t promise the sunshine, booking from May until August will be the best time to guarantee a bit of warmth.

If this has tempted you, then please let me know what you love about the little village you may never have heard of, Machrihanish!
