The Good, The Bad and The Ugly about Tinder

Tinder is a new dating app that has quickly become the talk of most of the country, being used by teenagers as well as adults. Whether you have the app or not, it’s likely that you will have heard something about it.

If not, all you need to know is that it’s a way of meeting new people by ‘liking’ or ‘disliking’ someone, purely based on a few photos and Facebook page likes.

Meet new people

It works by connecting to your Facebook (without ever posting anything, don’t worry) and taking some photos of your choice, mutual friends and likes and creating a profile for you on the app. You can set the distance for anything up to 160km, and choose an age range, and then you’re off!

Popularity

This app is so popular because it’s a quick and easy way to talk to people who live close to you in a way that presents no complications. If you dislike someone they will never know, and vice versa – so, there’s no need to feel bad about the option you choose.

If someone does like you, and you like them, then it’s a match! You can chat and it could possibly even end up becoming something more.

Moments

More recently, Tinder has introduced ‘moments’, which is very similar to a Snapchat story. You can take a photo at that current moment, as well as a caption, and post it. This will show up to all of your matches, for only 24 hours, so they can then like or dislike it, and possibly even be tempted to start up a conversation again.

This does seem to be a slightly pointless option for this particular app, but some users may enjoy using it!

Casual sex?

To begin with, Tinder was an app created for people who wanted casual sex, but most people now enjoy using it simply for the fun of it. It’s a simple way to talk to new people, without worrying about any pressure to take it further than a conversation, especially as they only know personal details that you choose to share with them via a message.

However, the app is still partially based on casual relationships, with a lot of people on it wanting nothing more. So, if you’re wanting a proper relationship, then you may want to look to a different dating website, or wait it out and hope to find someone else who does on this app!

Usage issues

In addition to this, the app is prone to shutting down whilst in use, and doesn’t always work to the standard that you would hope. For instance, after getting a message notification, and opening the app, the conversation usually doesn’t show up straight way, meaning that you have to close the app and open it up again before it shows – this gets annoying after a while!

There are also chances of it glitching and finding people outside of the range you’ve chosen in your settings, causing people living much further away, or of a completely different age range, to show up.

Despite this, no app is perfect and if you want a good laugh then you may as well give this app a download. It’s free, and you can check it out for yourself – who knows, you may meet the one!
