The Brazilian team knew it was all over when Germany stormed the first World Cup semi-final in the first half, with an amazing 5 shots taken by Muller, Kroose, Klose and Khedri. You simply had to look at the Brazilian fans’ faces in comparison to the Germans to notice that they were completely devastated. Gutted was an understatement.
As if 5-0 wasn’t bad enough, Germany took control of the second half too, winning with a massive 7-1 finish. Yes, Brazil did end up scoring one goal, but we all knew that was never going to make a difference to the game. In the words of one of the BBC Sport commentators: “Brazil just scored one of the most pointless World Cup goals”, and didn’t the fans of Brazil know it.
Just to make it worse social media made the most of Brazil’s loss, and created the hashtag #ThingMoreLikelyThanBrazilWinningTheWorldCup.
