Social craze: Broom Broom rules the internet

So, unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past week or so, there’s absolutely no way you could have missed this.

So, unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past week or so, there’s absolutely no way you could have missed this. It’s been everywhere: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, you name it, it’s there. And it’s made 18-year-old British student Tish Simmonds a viral star.

If you did magically manage to miss it, here’s what’s been causing a buzz on the internet lately:

The fame of Tish Simmonds

Don’t get it? No, in all honesty, neither do we… But the net loves it. Tish has even been stopped in the street by people asking her to take selfies with them.

The girl from Yorkshire told the Mirror: “I was just sitting in the car thinking, ‘What shall I do? I’ll do ‘broom broom’.’ I just make it up as I go along and then I tell my mum what to say.”

“People started following me on Twitter so I did some more – one about a cheeseburger and one with a joke. I don’t know why they are so popular. People must think they are funny. They have been saying: ‘I love your Vines. Please make more, you are very funny.’ It’s a nice feeling.”

“I have been stopped in the street – even when I went to Bridlington. There have been a lot of pictures taken. People ask if they can have a selfie with me. It’s really good. People have been supportive but some of the comments are from haters. It makes me feel a bit sad.”

Here is another one of her famous Vines:

The remixes

Anyway, the internet fully took advantage of this viral hit and people started remixing the Vine. Here are Kettle‘s top picks:

The parodies

Vine users naturally jumped on it and created their own parodies:

The reaction

It looked like Tish felt as if she’d had enough of the attention at one point:

But later on she tweeted the following, appearing to accept her fame.

Meanwhile, hash tags #TeamTish, #GetOutMeCar and #BroomBroom have gone viral.

Who knows how long Tish’s fame or this social craze will last, but all we have to say to the internet is: more of this, please!
