Every year for one weekend in July San Diego is visited by over 100,000 geeks from around the world to celebrate everything nerdy at the annual Comic-Con International event.

Here the most exciting new clips, trailers, news and panels from the film, television and comic books industries are showcased to an excited crowd who are living the dream. Here are seven awesome things from this year’s Comic-Con.

Christopher Nolan and Matthew McConaughey’s surprise appearance

One of the most anticipated films of this year is the spectacular looking Interstellar which is Christopher Nolan’s (The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception) latest project that stars Matthew McConaughey in a story about reaching beyond our solar system to save the human race. Being directed by Nolan means two things for the film, everyone is excited about seeing it and the details are being kept as secret as possible.

So the appearance of Nolan and McConaughey with a new trailer in the infamous Hall H at this year’s Comic-Con really took everyone by surprise. Those lucky enough to see it were treated to glimpses of the film’s spectacular visuals, something Nolan is known for since Inception, and the story.

According to reports it received a tremendous applause of the audience were blown away. The trailer is being released to the public on Friday so make sure to keep an eye out for that.

Mad Max trailer

The Mad Max reboot has been troubled and delayed for several years after various production problems. However, finally a trailer has arrived for Mad Max: Fury Road which stars Tom Hardy in the title role and is directed by George Miller who also directed the original trilogy.

Complete with stunning desert visuals, plenty of action, a thrilling car chase and Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult in leading roles, it of course drove the audience crazy. This is one to watch when it is released next year.

The Avengers pay a visit

Comic-Con would not be complete without a visit from Marvel Studios and their cast of heroic Avengers, of course promoting Avengers: Age of Ultron this year.

The footage they screened will not be available to the public until much later this year, but for now we can enjoy some incredible concept art which gives us a little preview.

The artwork showcases all of the Avengers along with newcomers Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) fighting off masses of Ultron robots.

Super android Vision, played by Paul Bettany a.k.a. the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S., can also be seen.

All hail Marvel!

Wonder Woman unveiled

The first image of Wonder Woman who, played by Gal Gadot, will be appearing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice next year was unveiled.

Striking with a sword in hand wearing battle gear, it seems that Snyder is taking a gothic and dark approach to the popular character.

Gadot certainly looks the part hushing up those who were quick to criticise when she was cast.

The Hunger Games trailer

Fans of the popular series had already been treated to glimpses of the next instalment Mockingjay – Part 1 via short clips which are speeches from President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the film.

But at Comic-Con after a three hour plus queue a lucky few were treated to the first full, albeit short, trailer. Showing Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) joining the rebels it gives us a tasty glimpse at what the film will bring. Cue screaming fans.

Game of Thrones bloopers

It seems the current nerdy obsession is Game of Thrones, so of course the cast of the popular television show paid a visit to Comic-Con announcing nine new additions to the cast and, best of all, showcasing a blooper reel from season four, which includes a hilarious shot of Maisie Williams tripping over a sword.

King Kong is back

On the Legendary Pictures panel after discussing a sequel to Godzilla amongst other things they announced the comeback of everyone’s favourite giant gorilla; King Kong. The new film entitled Skull Island is due for release in 2016, but fans were treated to a short teaser clip that showed the island and of course ended with a shot of King Kong beating his chest. Fancy that!
