If you are local to North Wales, you will have undoubtedly heard of The Fat Boar by now. If you haven't, or if perhaps you're not local, then please read this review and make a booking; you won't regret it.

The ever-welcoming original restaurant, based in Mold, opened its doors to all varieties of the public two years ago, in 2015. With its second birthday approaching and its recent opening of a second location in Wrexham, a review of the popular venue seems fitting.

So, what is so great about this restaurant and why do you need to book in advance a lot of the time? I'm here to tell you.

The Fat Boar is notorious for its attention to detail. That detail is present in everything, from its decadent, locally-sourced menu to its shabby-chic interior and its unbeaten customer service. I have eaten at the Mold location around seven or eight times, and I have also visited just for a drink on a Friday evening. I can quite honestly say that I have never had a bad meal, a bad drink or a bad customer experience in all of those times. Each experience has been great and well-above average.

I have visited in a couple, with friends and with family. It is a wonderful location which welcomes any group and any event. More than that, the venue often lends its ear to the local public, offering musicians and performers the chance to showcase their talents to its customers. You can simply contact them via their website if you are interested.

The restaurant offers generous portions of delicious recipes for a reasonable price. For a meal for two you can expect to pay less than £30, including drinks and of course depending on what meal you opt for (it will take you some time to choose, it all sounds incredible!) For those on a tighter budget, the restaurant caters to you, too. You can visit between 12pm and 7pm Monday-Friday to order from the Pre-Theatre Menu, where you can nab two courses for £10 or three for £13. The portions from this menu are slightly smaller but have that same great taste you won't find anywhere else. Trust me, I've tried it! For students located in Chester or Wrexham, it's a stones throw away and will make the perfect post-assignment treat.

You can view their recent sample menu for an idea of what they serve up on a day-to-day basis from their A La Carte range, but this regularly changes and dishes are swapped up to ensure customers always have something new and tasty to try. On my latest visits, I have opted for the mushroom and spinach wellington followed by the chocolate brownie, and a dish filled with sweet potato gnocchi, roasted vegetables, wilted spinach and a lemon butter parfait. Both were so delicious that I have tried them multiple times! The menu is also that bit more decadent than your average pub menu, but for around the same price-range. Bargain!

So, if this isn't enough to convince you to try what The Fat Boar has to offer, maybe their 2-for-1 cocktail menu or their gluten-free menu will convince you. If you don't want to opt for their food, take your friends, have a few drinks and find out what the venue has to offer with their latest events.

So, what are you waiting for? Contact them now to book your table, and let me know what you think of my current first-choice restaurant!
