Preview: Highasakite go on tour

Norwegian indie-pop band Highasakite have announced a small European tour to promote the release of their new album Camp Echo. Having toured with the likes of Of Monsters and Men and won an Independent Music Award for their album Silent Treatment, they’re definitely a band to watch. For example, Paul Lester of The Guardian describes them as being, ‘like Coldplay with a female singer’.

Starting out in 2011 opening for other bands and musical projects, their debut album All That Floats Will Rain was released in Norway in February 2012, reaching #15 on the Norwegian album chart. Since then, their second album Silent Treatment reached #1 on the same chart and was named the second best album of the year by Norwegian music critics. Starting out as a duo consisting of vocalist Ingrid Håvik and Trond Bersu, whilst both studying at the Trondheim Jazz Conservatory, as their success increased, so did the numbers in the group – adding Skar Eberson and Lo to the ensemble over the years.

In an interview with themusic.com, vocalist Ingrid commented that, “the forthcoming album isn’t about pushing anyone toward a political philosophy but more about how war has been central in her mindset for a number of years”, admitting “Global warming and war have been my main concern” [rather than love songs]. This is unsurprising given that their previous records have also contained heavy humanitarian vibes.

Highasakite’s new single ‘Someone Who’ll Get It’, released in February this year, comes from the new album, and certainly gives a taste of what to expect from not only Camp Echo, but also their upcoming tour. Their powerful lyrics and mean beats make for an impressive and authoritative song.

Highasakite will be touring through May and June this year to promote Camp Echo. Their tour dates are as follows:

22 May 2016 | WHELAN’S, DUBLIN (IE)

23 May 2016 | DEAF INSTITUTE, MANCHESTER (UK)
