Rosberg came into third place after a tough battle with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. The German was overtaken by Max during lap 17 but he managed to take back second place by passing him round the outside of Stowe with ten laps remaining. However Nico sufffered gearbox issues during the remaining laps and was told to avoid going in seventh gear and shift through it. Rosberg was handed a 10 second time penalty and dropped into third place after an investigation by stewards for radio transmissions aiding the driver during the gearbox failure.
Second place Max Verstappen made a remarkable pass on Rosberg through the Becketts sweeps to take second place during lap 17 but then lost time running wide at turn one before reporting his rear tyres had started to go off. Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo finished fourth, half a minute behind Hamilton.
