As we head into the second week of Wimbledon, there was plenty of tennis to be played on the famous manic Monday. With no play on Sunday, all remaining players were out on court today in the fourth round of the competition all hoping to grasp one of the quarter final places.
Sister rivalry
First up on centre court were sisters Serena and Venus Williams. After Heather Watson’s incredible efforts on Friday to put Serena Williams out of the competition it was not to be. This set up the sister’s match for the fourth round and it was the 26th time the pair have come up against each other professionally.
Serena, 33, who is two years younger than her sister came out victorious winning in one hour and eight minutes (6-4, 6-3). Of the 26 times the girls have played each other in professional competitions this is the 15th time Serena has come out on top.

Backing the Murray’s
It was good news for Andy Murray and British tennis, as he took to centre court straight after Serena and Venus Williams. Murray was up against the nearly 7ft, Ivo Karlovic who is known for his big serve. Andy won in four sets after letting the third set slip away ( 7-6, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4).
This will be the eighth year in a row that Murray has progressed to the quarter finals here at Wimbledon. He will be up against the unseeded Canadian, Vasek Pospisil next.

There was more good news for British tennis as Jamie Murray and his doubles partner, Australian John Peers managed to beat reigning champions Vasek Pospisil and Jack Sock. Pospisil had also been on court today in the men’s singles reaching the quarter finals. Murray and Peers won in five sets after a long 3 hours and 19 minute match ( 6-3, 7-6, 6-7, 3-6, 8-6).

Federer inching closer
Roger Federer managed to breeze into the quarter finals as he beat Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets ( 6-2, 6-2, 6-3). The seven time champion showed no doubt of losing as the second seed showed us his best. The 33 year old Swiss will now go on to face Giles Simon for a place in the semi-finals where he could possibly meet British number one Andy Murray.
