No matter what time of the year, these fishtail nails will be a winner! All you have to do is choose the right colours and you’ll be grabbing attention with just a slight movement of your hand.
Easy & elegant fishtail nails
You can choose any colour you want, however for the best results include at least one contrasting shade. When working with light tones make sure that the nail polish you use is strong enough to cover darker shades so that the darker shade is not visible from underneath.
Step 1)
After applying a standard base coat, paint each nail in a neutral colour for the background of the fishtail design. I chose a standard white colour but it doesn’t really matter which colour you choose, as long as it isn’t too vibrant.
Step 2)
Make sure your base colour is dry before you go any further. Choose your second shade, which should be a big contrast from the base colour and paint a single stripe across part of your nail as shown. Don’t worry too much if you make a mess. Most of it will be hidden under the next few layers of nail polish.
Step 3)
Repeat the process on the opposite side with your third colour. Don’t forget to give the colours time to dry before moving on to the next, otherwise they might mix themselves up. Repeat with the base colour and continue until you get to the end of the nail. Easy as if you were braiding your hair!
Step 4)
Allow the nail to dry properly and then cover it in a topcoat for lasting results. Use nail polish remover to tidy it up and wipe off any nail polish that managed to get onto the skin around your nails and you are done!
Now get ready for the compliments and amazed looks when you tell people you painted your nails yourself.
