Whether getting ready for a night-out or hosting a flat-party, here are 10 tracks to set the mood and get the party started! (No Pink, sadly.)
1. ‘Pass Out’ by Tinie Tempah
Tinie Tempah hasn’t really been able to top this stomper-of-a-debut. With the classic line ‘semester to semester, raving with the freshers’, this is an obvious choice. But, remember, passing out is never cool.
2. ‘Blurred Lines’ by Robin Thicke ft. Pharrell Williams and T.I.
As controversial as the lyrics might be, it still has one of the best beats of 2013. It’s being banned across Student Unions across the country, so you may as well give it a play at home!
3. ‘We Can’t Stop’ by Miley Cyrus
Girl-of-the-moment, Miley Cyrus, can help set the tone of the evening with her appropriate track. You’ll have to stop at some point though, those lectures won’t attend themselves…and leave the tongue-dangling to Miley.
4. ‘Danza Kuduro’ by Don Omar ft. Lucenzo
This song has been around forever but it’s still a corker. It’s the perfect summer anthem and ideal for impressing new friends with your (probably non-existent) foreign language skills.
5. ‘Pompeii’ by Bastille
Chart-friendly pop is not for everyone, so how about something a bit less mainstream– whilst still upbeat and encourages a good sing-a-long.
6. ‘Dirrty’ by Christina Aguilera ft. Redman
Does anybody know why there are two r’s in this title?! The mind boggles. This year’s new crop of students would’ve been born in 1995 (holy hell) but hopefully they’ll remember Xtina’s stand-out hit. It will also encourage those inclined to dance on tables to do so too (safety first though, kids).
7. ‘Work B**tch’ by Britney Spears
Don’t forget why you came to University in the first place: to study. Britney’s latest comeback single will have your motivation covered.
8. ‘Thrift Shop’ by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Wanz
If you ever need a chance to show-off as host, you can just pretend to understand all the American jokes in this.
9. ‘A Little Party Never Killed Nobody’ by Fergie ft. Q-Tip and GoonRock
For a bit of sophistication, this track comes straight from the Great Gatsby soundtrack, so you can dance around sipping your beverages whilst feeling quite classy.

10. Spectrum (Say My Name) [Calvin Harris Remix] – Florence & the Machine
Celebrate diversity (and British contributions to music) with this track, guaranteed to get even the stiffest of flat-party guests bopping around in their seats.
