It’s summer, we’re on holiday and the sun is shining – well, it was!

It’s summer, we’re on holiday and the sun is shining – well, it was! Regardless of the ever-changing British weather, recent events such as the Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics have ensured that this summer will be one to remember. When we look back on this summer in the future, music will undoubtedly remind us of the experience and bring back memories. Check out the top five songs of this soon-to-be iconic summer so far:

Rihanna – Where Have You Been

Where Have You Been is the latest single from Rihanna and the third to be lifted from her recent studio album Talk That Talk, following We Found Love and You Da One. The track has been hugely popular in recent months due to its catchy lyrics, European dance beat and visually stunning music video, remaining a permanent fixture on both the music charts and the club scene.

No Doubt – Settle Down

No Doubt return with Settle Down, the lead single from their first studio album in 11 years. The ska-infused track is reminiscent of some of the band’s earlier work, with the reggae beats ensuring that Settle Down is one of the best songs of the summer so far.

Frank Ocean – Pyramids

Pyramids is a song by critically acclaimed American singer-songwriter Frank Ocean, which is featured on Channel Orange, his debut studio album. The song, which clocks in at an astounding 9:53 minutes, is a masterpiece that is full of ancient Egyptian imagery and is easily one of the best songs to emerge in recent months.

Lana Del Rey – National Anthem

Quirky singer Lana Del Rey returns with National Anthem, the latest single from her Born To Die album. National Anthem is a standout track, which features the dramatic lyrics ‘Wining and dining / Drinking and driving / Excessive buying / Overdosin’, dyin’ / On our drugs and our love and our dreams and our rage / Blurring the lines between real and the fake’. The accompanying music video is also worth watching, portraying the singer as Jackie O (and A$AP Rocky as JFK) with the video culminating with the infamous assassination of the former US president.

Rita Ora – How We Do (Party)

Up-and-coming Roc Nation sensation Rita Ora sets the mood for summer with her latest single How We Do (Party). The anthemic track, which is sure to find its way onto many-a-party playlist this summer, features a sample of Party and Bullshit by The Notorious B.I.G.
