Southend rockers Nothing But Thieves are having a hell of a year. The band have burst onto the scene and sky rocketed to success. This week they saw their latest single ‘Trip Switch promoted to Radio One’s B List. They’re currently tearing up the festival circuit, all be it on many small stages, but it’s only a matter of time before they are up there on the top stages. However, it isn’t without a lot of hard work that they’ve got to where they are today.

Schoolmates Connor, Joe and Dave had been throwing themselves into the music industry at home in Southend on the local live circuit for years. Then they reached sixth form and classically-trained bandmate Dom joined. That was when things really began to change and take shape.

As the band say on their official Facebook page:Not that this puts him on a pedestal with his bandmates. They all agree that it’s the mix of his formal training with Joe’s self-taught chops which lies at the heart of the NOTHING BUT THIEVES sound. As Dom puts it, “Joe knows shit-all about theory and that’s the best thing about him… if it sounds good, it sounds good”. Knowing the ‘right’ way to play is all very well but, Dom continues, “You want a million different options for the next chord”.

Over the last three years the band have been putting in a lot of time and effort to create their perfect sound and get things exactly right, including a six week trip to the USA to work alongside a number of songwriters and producers. Joe states this as their best decision yet.

The band are yet to release their debut album, but with numerous singles and EPs out there listeners have been given a taste of what to expect.

I definitely recommend you check them out – the band currently have a free download available on their Facebook page.

There are big things to come from Nothing But Thieves… watch this space.
