Jamie Oliver + Music: a recipe made in heaven?

Jamie Oliver has an album, ok so he’s not singing but it is designed to be played while you are cooking. Yet another pie he has a thumb in, pardon the pun!

However you feel about the Essex born chef you have to admit how well he has done for himself. Recipe books, a TV show, political campaigns, popular restaurants all around the UK and apparently a cooking album.

You might be able to tell that I am personally a fan of the ambitious chef but a cooking album would seem too far even for me. Admittedly the album was a one off produced years ago but is there any merit to this idea?

I love music and so have it playing in the house pretty much constantly, even when cooking but I cannot see a correlation between the two. Generally there are no songs I play in particular when I am in the kitchen and I would bet that you don’t either.

However there is one exception, for me at least; Dean Martin and Helen O’Connell singing ‘How d’ya like your eggs in the morning?’ Give it a listen and I guarantee it will have you signing along. I would consider this a weekend breakfast or brunch song. Just picture it; a lazy Sunday with pancakes and fresh orange juice and singing ‘how d’ya like your eggs in the morning?’ complete with an American twang. The reason I love this song so much is the Sunday feeling it creates however I have to admit the Tropicana advert may have something to do with this. I tip my hat to the advertising team for the popular breakfast juice as this song conjures up the advert every time but I still maintain my own love for this 50’s classic.

Jamie’s album: ‘Cookin’: Music to cook by’ consists of songs the chef no doubt loves to play in the kitchen such as; Blur, Fatboy Slim, Manic Street Preachers and The Stone Roses. These are songs the former Naked Chef personally likes rather than anything to do with food or with cooking. Needless to say it did not take off in a big way and nor have any other cooking style albums since.

Therefore I think it’s safe to say you can listen to any music you wish while cooking as there are no specific rules for music in the kitchen, with the exception of the weekend brunch of course.

Here are five songs relating to food and FYI it’s a lot harder than you think to try and find food related music, especially within my lifetime.

Without further ado here are five food related songs you have probably heard of before:

    Jack Johnson – Banana Pancakes
Las Ketchup – The Ketchup Song
    Mika – Lollipop
    Kelis – Milkshake
Be our guests from Beauty and the Beast
