Written by Nigel Simpkins

The last couple of years have been a time when many people have finally had the time to stop and think about what they want from life. Between furloughs and lockdowns, there wasn’t a lot else to do. Many have thought about where they see themselves in ten years’ time and how they want to get there and the idea of becoming entrepreneurs has appealed to a lot of people. If you have thought about setting up your own business, you may be stuck for choices. After all, there are so many great possibilities but how do you create a business that reflects your style and working preferences?

Play to Your Strengths

Think about what you are good at and play to your strengths. Even if you already have a great business idea you will still have to work out how you are going to run the day-to-day management of your business as well as doing the things that make you money. Think about what you are great at and what you need some help with. As you grow your business you can start to take on staff to deal with the weaker areas for you. Thus, creating your business style and being able to work on the parts of your company that keep you motivated.

Work in An Industry You Are Passionate About

It is wonderful knowing that you can make money from your business idea. However, if you find the industry as dull as dishwater, there will be no passion and focus on your style. Consider what you are enthusiastic about if you want your business to reflect your true style and only work with products or services you would use yourself.  For example, if you love fashion, you could start an online boutique. You can pick up some great items from Stylewise Direct which offers great wholesale clothing UK prices on fantastic new fashion. You will love wearing the clothes they produce as well as selling them. This is a sales technique too as people will ask you where you got your style from.

Don’t Be Afraid to Showcase Your Talents

This is an easy thing to do if you have been working in the industry for a while before you set up your business. You may have won awards or nominations that you can use to highlight your style and talent. If you have a physical office, you can place these behind your reception desk so that clients can see them as soon as they walk through the door. If you are an online business, don’t forget to include a page about you and your achievements on your website. Clients love a personal story and adding to that with a list of your achievements is a fantastic way to win business.

If you have changed industries when you set up your business, you should still make your backstory part of your website as this will show your style and passion for your new industry. As you gain experience there will be achievements that you can add to this.

Personalise Your Logo

First impressions count and one of the first things that will catch the attention of your potential clients is your company logo. Use your logo to show off your style. Are you simple and uncomplicated, bold, and brash, or do you like to come across as straightforward and business-like? Whatever impression you are trying to give, your logo will do this for you first. Consider your font, colour scheme, and design. Unless you are in the design industry, it may be wise to get a logo company to design some for you so that you can choose the one you like best. That way you can show off your style while getting some professional expertise to do the artistic work.

Don’t Skip the Small Stuff

You can often go to town showcasing your style in the small details. From the colour scheme of your office walls to the cups you use, and the pens you write with, everything about your business will reflect your personal style. Even if you have not paid attention to the finer details in the past, you can bet your clients will. Make sure they are left with the style you want to show them. If they are drinking coffee from a plastic cup or a chipped mug, they may think that you don’t care enough about their account to make sure that everything is perfect. This could leave them deciding to take their business elsewhere.

There are many ways that you can use your business to reflect your personal style. Once you have decided which of your best traits you want to put on show, be brave, be bold and just go for it.
