BBC announces public to choose UK Eurovision act

This week, the BBC has announced an X Factor style programme in the hopes of finding a winning act for the UK in Eurovision 2016.

The programme, Eurovision: You Decide, will be broadcast on Friday 26th February on BBC Four. It will feature six acts performing in front of a professional panel.

Public vote

The new show will give the public the chance to choose the song and act that will represent Britain in the 2016 Eurovision song contest, which this year, will be taking place in Sweden.

Eurovision fan and Bake Off host, Mel Giedroyc, will be hosting the show live from The O2 Forum, Kentish Town.

Giedroyc said:

“It’s very exciting that the Great British public will get the chance to choose who will be sent to Sweden and I know it’s going to be an amazing night.”

We are also told to expect performances from ‘special Eurovision musical guests’.

Serious contenders

The programme aims to help re-engage the UK with the contest as many of our recent entrants haven’t been taken seriously.

Our pre-selected entry for 2015, Electro Velvet, came 24th out of 27 entrants in Vienna with their song ‘Still In Love With You.’ If you missed it last year, you can remind yourself of their performance below.
