Frivolity

I never Knew that! With Kettle World Editor Fiona Carty

At Kettle Mag the editors remain hidden away in Kettle Towers occupying themselves with ideas, proofing, tweeting, and keeping their ears tuned to the latest news. But what do we know about these creatures? Here at frivolity over the coming weeks we intend to find out. On the global stage this week, World Editor Fiona Carty tells all.

My parents don’t know this about me but…

There isn’t much that they don’t know to be honest.

What is your favourite word that rhymes with Kettle?

It’s already been said but probably mettle.

What is the most revolting food you’ve ever eaten?

When my friend went to the US I asked her to bring back some sweets. She brought back a butter finger which is basically dried peanut butter covered in chocolate, it crumbled and then melted covering my teeth and I nearly threw up. Never again.

Which country would you most like to live in and why?

Technically it’s not a country but Hong Kong. I was 9 when the handover happened and in the years running up to it Hong Kong was on the TV a lot so I became fascinated with it at a young age. I visited a few years ago and completely fell in love with the city, I suppose it’s one of those places you either love or hate.

God I miss this city #hongkong #iwillbeback #hkig

What fascinates you most about the World? People, politics or geography?

The differences, different ways of seeing things or doing things. Although some people see that as a bad thing I genuinely think the more we know about other cultures the better off we’ll be. Some people complain about other cultures but imagine if everything was the same, how boring would it be.

If you couldn’t edit the World section for Kettle, which section would you choose?

What I love is that World can cover all the other sections, although this does run the risk of stepping on other people’s toes. If I had to choose, probably travel or books.

Which friend that you met at uni is likely to be at your 60th birthday party?

Hopefully all of them.

Wine or beer?

Neither

Cat or dog?

Dog, they don’t judge you like cats do and they’re usually willing to join you for a trip outside.

Football or rugby?

Rugby

Android or iphone?

Whichever offers the best contract at the time.

Apart from writing, what other creative talents do you have?

I used to be really good at drawing cartoons, but I haven’t tried in years.

If you were a punctuation mark, what would you be?

Honestly no idea, sorry.

What is your most unappealing habit?

I’m a devils advocate and don’t always realise I’m doing it, much to the annoyance of people who just want to rant.

What would you like to be remembered for?

To be honest people will think what they want anyway and what they think of me is none of my business so as long as it isn’t a lie then I don’t care.

Have you ever volunteered for anything?

Lots of things, I’ve had to stop now because I can’t afford to anymore.

Who so far, family or otherwise has influenced you in your life?

I don’t want to be sounding cliche but doesn’t everyone who enters your life influence it in someway?

Which emoji do you use most frequently?

cdn.playbuzz.com

Somewhere over the Rainbow – Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole
