Hungarian Grand Prix: Hamilton looks to redeem

After the thrilling race that we saw at Hockenheim last weekend we move to Hungary for the last race before the summer break.

After the thrilling race that we saw at Hockenheim last weekend we move to Hungary for the last race before the summer break.

For Lewis Hamilton the Hungarian Grand Prix could not come at a better time as he looks to close down a 14 point gap to his teammate Nico Rosberg that increased last weekend despite coming back from 20th place all the way up to 3rd.

The Brit has always gone well around the 16 turn, 2.7 mile Hungaroring, Hamilton has notched up four victories in Hungary and will be eager to make it win number five as we head into the break.

The Awaited Favourite

The circuit has hosted Formula One since 1986 and is a favourite amongst fans with people from all over Europe and especially Finland visit Budapest. The ticket prices aren’t bad too, the Hungarian Grand Prix is one of the cheapest on the calendar.

As well as being high speed it is also tight and twisty, similar to Monaco. They don’t refer to the tricky Hungaroring as “Monaco without the barriers” for no reason.

With overtaking proving to be difficult around this circuit, qualifying is key especially as this weekend the DRS zones have been shortened since last year. 2013 winner Lewis Hamilton will be not be looking to repeat his qualifying performances of Austria, Silverstone or Hockenheim this time out as overtaking will prove to be a lot trickier here than last time out in Germany.

Increased chances for Red Bull

After Nico Rosberg took his home victory last weekend it is up to Hamilton to once again close the gap to the leader. Whilst it should be another Mercedes win, Red Bull cannot be counted out just yet.

With the last and fast flowing corners Red Bull have a great chance to cause an upset. Unless something out of the ordinary happens the chances of a Red Bull win are slim as it is Williams who as of late seem to be the only team that are benefiting from Mercedes mishaps but this weekend could be different.

Believe it or not this is the only event on the calendar this season bar Russia that Sebastian Vettel has not yet won but before the German can think about the win at this circuit he needs to find his way past teammate Daniel Ricciardo.

Much like last weekend, Pirelli have thrown a curveball into the equation in terms of tyre compounds. The super soft that we usually see at tracks such as Hungary, Monaco and Singapore have been replaced with the soft (option) tyre. This weekend will see the medium (prime) tyre be used by the teams.

In terms of the weather this weekend it is much like the conditions we saw in Germany last time out with a threat of rain on Sunday. With warm temperatures and sun on Friday and Saturday the teams will have lots of data to maul over on Friday evening and Saturday morning.

With Lewis Hamilton being tied with only Michael Schumacher for wins in Hungary the time really is now for Lewis Hamilton to close the gap on teammate Rosberg and take win number five just before the break.
