Penelope and Monica Cruz for Agent Provocateur

A marriage has been made in heaven for lingerie addicts everywhere.

A marriage has been made in heaven for lingerie addicts everywhere. Penelope Cruz and sister, Mónica (perhaps the sexiest women on the planet) have just launched their new line, ‘L’ Agent’ for AW13 for the sexiest brand of underwear around, Agent Provocateur.

An avid ‘collector’ of AP frillies, Penelope Cruz described her delight at working with AP; “I’ve been a big fan of Agent Provocateur since my twenties and of course I wear it!” she exclaimed to Grazia. Her sister Monica appeared in the AW12/13 campaign shoot entitled “Wilhelmina: show your true self” and expressed her interest in designing a line with AP. Two weeks later and the sisters were collaborating on a new collection for the upcoming season.

And this collaboration isn’t going anywhere. AP are keen to keep the sisters on for another 5 years designing the AW collections for the brand. Nice work, girls!

A Brand for Everyone

An exclusive for AP, the Cruz sisters designed the new label for “women of all shapes and ages… this brand is for everyone,’’ Penelope told WWD. In a bid to truly encompass ‘all women’, Penelope (who directed the accompanying promotional film) cast her sister Mónica in the video, who was within a few days of giving birth. Penelope Cruz has also recently given birth to her second child with husband, Bardem (on the same day as Baby Prince George was born nonetheless!) and so she says “it was very important to me to include a shot of a pregnant woman in the film…I got my sister to do the shot for us a few days before she gave birth. I thought she wasn’t going to make it, but she was there, she was fine. She looked so beautiful.”

Penelope’s husband, Javier Bardem has also been given a cameo role in the film. Cruz said: “I couldn’t imagine anyone else in Javier’s character… it’s a little moment but he’s so funny in it.”

Alongside the already star-studded cast, Cruz’s close friend and model Irina Shayk has also been cast in the film (“one of the most unbelievable creatures you’ve ever seen”) and Miguel Angel Silvestra, who she recently starred alongside with in Almodóvar’s new film I’m So Excited!

The film for the new collection features the cast in two strikingly different scenes. The lead male (Silvestra) wonders into a classier version of the Playboy mansion (whilst still maintaining the tongue-in-cheek feel of the AP brand), where he discovers Shayk by the pool who gives him a sizzling lap dance.

In interviews from behind the scenes of the film Silvestra commented that it was “truly a moment I will never forget”- lucky chap! He is then rudely awoken from his dream by his boss, Bardem where they are both working on a construction site in Madrid. Silvestra shares a secret smile with the audience and the L’Agent collection is born.

The Collection

The new collection, although slightly more ‘wearable’ than most AP pieces, still maintains the suggestive sexiness of the brand. The promotional video features chic tailored panelling, in keeping with trends for next season with lingerie in dark, indulgent colours (deep burgundy’s, rose pinks and slick black to name a few). The collection shows satin breast plates, velveteen high-waist knickers and adorned with complimenting shades of lace, it looks to be a hit for AW13.

With each piece given a Spanish Girl’s name, the Hispanic twist to the collection certainly keeps the heat up!

Although Cruz describes the collection as “every day,” it’s hard to imagine these get-ups under a pair of jeans. Despite that though, she insists that the collection is comfortable, as “sexy lingerie can be annoying to wear…and it becomes something you can only wear to a party or with a nightgown.”

We salute your efforts, Ms Cruz!

With the collection sure to be very popular this season, we’ve only got one thing on our minds. Javier Bardem, you are one very lucky man.

L’Agent launched at Net-A-Porter, Selfridges, House of Fraser, Harrods, John Lewis and Harvey Nichols on 1st August. Prices start from £18.
