Everyone who is anyone has worn Oscar de la Renta. From Sarah Jessica Parker to Michelle Obama, the designer was best known for his elegant, sometimes out-there gowns, as well as his high ranking celebrity clientele. His death from complications with cancer was confirmed by his wife on Monday. He passed away at his home in Conneticut, aged 82.
Timeless
You might be forgiven for being surprised at the sudden news of de la Renta’s passing, as the fashion genius was still very much a prominent figure at fashion shows and balls this year. Although ailing, the designer has spent the last decade growing his business even further, boosting its sales by a further 50%. His iconic designs were graceful, beautiful and full of light and body. They were the perfect red carpet gowns and his uniquely glamorous style will live on through his brand.
A friend to many
Tributes from celebrities and other designers poured in today, with many famous names tweeting their appreciation for the Spanish raised powerhouse.

One last farewell
Certainly, the fashion world has lost a genius and is united in the fact that de la Renta was loved by all who met him and wore his creations. And in a wonderful farewell to his notorious gowns, one of his last acts before he passed was to design the wedding dress of Amal Clooney, which is now going on sale to the public, so someone else can own a piece of fashion history.
