It was announced on Friday that the author Harper Lee has died at the age of eighty-nine.
Best known for her much loved classic To Kill A Mockingbird, and her more recent novel Go Set A Watchman, the author has touched the hearts and minds of millions who read and studied her work at school.
If you have never watched the movie or read the book, then I suggest you either do so or check out the Crash Course on To Kill A Mockingbird.
The novel tells the tale of a white lawyer defending a black man accused of rape in the Deep South of America. It sold more than 40 million copies worldwide and became a staple of American literature. The book itself is full of inspirational quotes which made it so well loved, including;
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”
“People generally see what they look for, and hear what they listen for.”
“You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don’t you let ’em get your goat. Try fightin’ with your head for a change.
-Atticus Finch”
“Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit ’em, but remember it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”
