The Worldly Wise: Insider views from The Netherlands

In a new series we will interview a person from a country outside of the UK for their views on their life and their native country.

Where are you from?

The Netherlands

What are you studying?

I follow a master’s degree in communication science.

What do you think is a unique aspect of your country?

I think my country is unique because it is a small country but we are not inferior to bigger countries in Europe. And I think it’s also unique that a large part of our country is below sea level but we are still able to live there.

What do you think is the biggest issue facing your country at the moment?

I think the biggest issue in our country right now are the refugees that are coming to our country, and how we are going to deal with it. (just like in the rest of Europe I think)

What do you think first comes to mind when people are talking about your country?

Clogs, cheese, windmills, farmers and weed.

Is there anything you wish people knew about your country that doesn’t get mentioned in the media?

Not really. I have the idea that a lot of people just know the Netherlands because of our drugs legislation and that tourists mainly visit Amsterdam, while the rest of our country is beautiful as well.
