Classic outfits guaranteed to make him look twice

Even before I start getting ready to go out on a date with my boyfriend, I already know the sort of conversation we will have when I’m running late for our dinner reservation.

Even before I start getting ready to go out on a date with my boyfriend, I already know the sort of conversation we will have when I’m running late for our dinner reservation. “Why are you not dressed yet? We need to leave in 10 minutes!” “I have nothing to wear!” “Are you serious? You have two wardrobes stuffed full of clothes and shoes, and I haven’t seen your floor in days because of the amount of dresses there are thrown on it!”

In retrospect, I completely get his point—I have many outfit choices, some even have the tags on from years ago. However, the obsession to look good always makes everything you already owe inadequate. What I have learned about guys is they don’t really care!

I’m not suggesting that on your first date you should arrive in a juicy tracksuit and a pair of Uggs (seriously, please don’t), but don’t take out hours of your life just to plan an outfit for a man. If you arrive with a nice smile on your face and a bit of banter, wearing a dustbin bag wouldn’t deter them. Of course making an effort is a good thing, but when it comes to lads, the simpler the better! Therefore I have come up with some failsafe outfit choices that will definitely get you remembered!

Jeans and heels
This combo is perfect if you are going on a low-key date or going out with a group of people. It shows that you don’t try too hard or take things too seriously, but you are feminine and look great even when you’re dressing down. Men love the ‘girls next door’ look, and a pair of skinnies does wonders for your behind!

Midi dresses
For an evening look that screams sophistication, a knee length or slightly lower will do the trick. Just remember to add killer heels to avoid stumpy-leg syndrome! If you really want a guy to look twice you could opt for a slightly lower neckline, but this rule only applies if the dress is long!

Shorts and a blouse
This look is great if you have lovely legs and want to show them off! However, if you have your legs out, keep your top half covered—that means high necklines ladies. Nude heels will elongate your legs, so it will guarantee some stares from the guy you like. Men generally hate fussy or over the top outfits, and this one is perfect at being casual yet still glamorous.

A blazer
If you are going on a night out and want to catch a lad’s attention, it won’t be you shivering outside in the cold because you didn’t bring a coat. Unless it’s summer, always take a thin jacket or blazer out! There are so many to choose from and they can make a boring outfit look more sophisticated then it is.

Less is more
This generally counts for everything apart from clothes! Men prefer to see the real you, so don’t cover up in all the makeup you own and use fake tan 10 times darker then you’re real skin colour. Makeup is there to enhance your features, not to cover them up.

The same rule applies for jewellery. Statement necklaces are huge at the moment (quite literally) and look fabulous with a plain dress or shirt. However don’t wear them with pat butcher earrings and a wrist-full of bangles. Otherwise you will be crossing the boundary from OTT to MR T.
