As a ginger myself I know how terrifying the summer can be, just one hour too long outside and you are as red as a tomato and spending the rest of your summer getting laughed at whilst you are stuck inside covered in after-sun. This year I have compiled my top tips for surviving summer as a ginger.

Smoother yourself in sun cream

You will look ridiculous to start off with but being prepared will save your skin and stop you going crisp like bacon when the sun comes out from behind the clouds. Sun cream is essential to stop you from damaging your skin and later on in life when you have fewer sunspots and wrinkles you will be thankful for it.

When the sun has his hat on, so should you

Whist everybody is taking their hat off and letting the wind blow their hair back in true Loreal advert fashion, you need to keep that hat on. There is nothing worse than sun stroke and a burnt head for that matter. You could just put sun cream all over your head, but nobody finds the sun cream in the hair look that attractive.

Stay hydrated

Of course when the weather is warmer we should all be drinking more water, but with fair skin you need to keep it hydrated as well. We all know what happens that second week into a holiday when you've not only been burnt but you’re starting to recover and turn into a snake shedding your skin everywhere. Staying hydrated will help your skin to not only recover faster but with the help of moisturisers, exfoliating scrubs and gloves, you can be flake free.

Get some movies/books on standby

Unless you are super lucky, there will be a time during the summer where you just can’t do it anymore. You can’t step outside into the bright light, not even to sit in the shade. Whether it is for a few hours, days or even a week, you need to remember that with your hair and skin type you need some down time away from summer. So make sure you have all of the best movies, tv shows and books at hand for when you hit the wall.

Side note: Dying your hair at the hope it will change the way your skin reacts to the sun doesn’t work. Nice try.

Please help support Kettle?

The Kettle server was hacked recently and nearly all of the content was deleted. We have managed to recover a lot of it but we are in desperate need of a new website. Can you spare a few quid...?
